March 2003 Austin Chronicle"The Last Word" by Stephen Moser We were invited to Word of Mouth's Bridal Preview at the Littlefield Corp. last week, featuring a sneak peek at some of the wonderful delicacies they'll be offering this season. The service was impeccable, of course, especially from manager Loralee Martin, who made sure we understood what we were eating and that we had plenty of it; the Portobello Croustades, among so many offerings, were delectable, as was the Pecan-Crusted Salmon with Apple-French Grain Mustard, and the Pepper-Crusted Smoked Beef Tenderloin with Horseradish Cream and Potato Rolls. And the cakes? Well, you know they were fabulous, especially the Sour Cream Cake with Mixed Berry Filling. Excellent work as usual from this award-winning operation, which was also just nominated by Special Events magazine for Best Off-Premise Catered Event (for their 800-person Blanton Museum Gala). To hire Word of Mouth for your event, call 472-9500. March 2003 Tribeza Magazine What makes a perfect dinner party? It's hard to say, but I know it when I experience it, and that's what I did the other night at Anne Elizabeth and Will Wynn opened up their fantastic home for an appreciation dinner for supporters of the Austin Poetry Slam. Here's the Wynns' recipe for a great night: Start with a great mix of people, add in some cocktails served by Phil Ritcherson (Austin's coolest bartender), serve perfect food from Word Of Mouth, and spice the evening with performance art. February 21, 2003 Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival Takes Manhattan by Storm "Austin in the Big Apple" by MM Pack The kitchen hopped and kept the Austin-style noshes coming out. The guests apparently couldn't get enough of festival President Kevin Williamson's Ranch 616 buttermilk fried oysters; or Louis Lambert's signature beef salpicon tacos; or Quincy Erickson's baby pecan pies and cotija, smoked cheddar, and jalapeƱo tartlets. Under the leadership of Blue Smoke chef Kenny Callaghan, the Jazz Standard kitchen staff cheerfully cranked out frito pies, chili, housemade barbecue potato chips, and some stunning green-tomato empanadas. Austin's Word of Mouth Catering provided the party favors -- quantities of spiced Texas pecans. February 13, 2003 Word of Mouth Catering was recently nominated for Best Off-Premise Catered Event by The Special Events Magazine. January 2003 Tribeza Magazine The Elizabeth Ann Seton Board finished off the year with a party at Wendy and Tod Thompson's beautiful home. Word of Mouth provided the food, including the best Christmas cookies I had all season. November 2002 Austin Chronicle "On the Prowl" by Stephen Moser I didn't get invited, but well-connected spy girl Lois Richwine did -- to wardrobe consultant Paula Lundgren's engagement party at the Red Fez. We've raved about the Red Fez before, so assume that it was a suitably glamorous place for Paula to celebrate her upcoming wedding in January, with belly dancers, a fortune teller, Moroccan food from the fabulous "Best of Austin"-award-winning Word of Mouth catering, and lots of cocktails. Hostessed by Gay Gaddis from T3, there were fake cobras on the floor, third eyes, and lots of party girls, such as the Garden Room's Pattie Hoffpauir, Trisha Mason of Adelante, Katie Culmo of By George, Julie Crenshaw, Cindy Morgan, and Julie Wilson and Mike Genung of Charles Edwin Shoes.
